About James
From Engineer to Educator
I spent my early career as an engineer, solving complex real-world problems with mathematics every day. When I made the switch to teaching, I brought that practical mindset with me.
Maths isn't a collection of procedures to memorise — it's a language for understanding patterns and solving problems. That's the perspective I bring to every lesson, whether I'm helping a primary schooler grasp fractions or a Year 13 student conquer calculus.
Over 13 years, I've tutored students across every age group and curriculum: NCEA, IB, Cambridge, A-Levels, and NZ Scholarship. The common thread in every student I've helped? They left more confident than they arrived.
